Mild surfactants are also known as surface-active agents . They have both a water-loving and an oil-loving part and can thus lower the surface tension of water – this gives products their cleansing properties and makes it possible to thoroughly remove oil, sweat, or cosmetic residues from the skin or hair.

Mild surfactants are formulated to attack the skin’s natural protective layer as little as possible. This allows cleansing to proceed gently and effectively and makes them suitable for sensitive skin.

Mild surfactants can be obtained and produced from plant-based, renewable raw materials such as coconut oil and fruit sugar.

In general, a distinction is made between mild and aggressive surfactants.

• Aggressive surfactants often clean very strongly and frequently produce a lot of foam. In doing so, the skin can become dry or irritated. A major issue is that they often not only remove dirt from the skin but also some of the skin’s natural oils. This can lead to irritation or a feeling of dryness and tightness.
• Mild surfactants clean thoroughly but more gently. They preserve more of the skin’s natural protective layer and help maintain the skin’s balance. For this reason, they are especially suitable for sensitive, dry, or delicate skin.
